So rather than working on my medical ethics take home test- i've been reading foods blogs (in particular
http://www.katheats.com/, i'm usually a
http://carrotsncake.com/ type but since i am procrastinating I branched out.
One of them mentioned "mint.com" which can be used to track finances, so I signed up. Its really awesome and easy... especially for me since I only have one bank account and no credit cards - and *sometimes* i am meticulous about my upkeep of my online banking.
So it computes what you spend on a variety of components i.e. rent, food & dining, entertainment. Its pretty fab,... I might become obsessed.
Unfortunately- my average spending on food was $280 :O !!! That does include groceries, dining out, alcohol etc. but for one person (generally)! that is absurd... I hadn't been doing very well with my money lately but thats a bit extreme.
I'm really good at not spending my money of other things (usually) like clothes and what not- mostly because those things are more lasting and I'll remember it- food is so often an impulse buy - and then i eat it and forget :/
also, its a "necessity"- granted I am a chronic and unruly binge eater- so the amount of food i eat is definitely not a necessity, but i can still chalk it up to it.
I also generally attempt to eat healthy- so that can be pricey- especially since it takes a lot to fill me up (that is in regards to all food - but to buy a box of macaroni and cheese - which is 3 servings but i would eat all at once is 50cents, whereas, whole wheat pasta - eat amount half a box :/ at 1.20 per box= .60, + ~ 1/2 bag frozen vegetables $1, + 1/4 can sauce .25 = total 1.85 for a meal-- and thats not even necessarily a whole meal... I told you I eat a lot !!
I discovered this mint.com right after i went grocery shopping :/ but at least now i have a full refrigerator (I was very excited about my purchases they had lots of good sales at shaws this week... they had some really cute clemintines on sale too but i couldnt carry a box...)
so far this month i have spent $135 (--- although i do not think my debit from the pub crawl cleared yet so it might be more) So i figure- i have a stocked fridge- this is the perfect time to attempt to manage my meals a bit better and try not to spend an absurd amount of money for the rest of the month.
i'll set a grocery goal of $20 a week... (we'll see if that works!)
I know i also have to go out to dinner etc for a few plans/ celebrations etc... so that will put a damper on things.
